Drivers out in the early morning or late evening hours usually do not have to face many motorists on the road. The lack of other vehicles may lead some to think that consuming alcohol or illegal substances won't hurt anyone or the odds of one being in an auto accident are slim. The decision to get behind the wheel while in an altered state can be deadly and leave Pennsylvania families devastated.

Authorities responded to the call for assistance shortly after midnight. A 21-year-old driver reportedly drove his car off the road and into the home an 86-year-old woman. The car went through the wall and into the first-floor bedroom where the woman was sleeping. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Toxicology on the suspected negligent driver found that the he was under the influence of alcohol and an illegal substance at the time of the crash. Authorities believe that the man was using excessive speed when the accident occurred. Crash analysis detectives concluded that he also did not try to stop or avoid hitting the home, and in fact, sped up once his vehicle left the roadway.

Losing a loved one in an auto accident such as this can cause a tangle of legalities that can be confusing and add to the emotional turmoil a family may feel. The unexpected loss, coupled with the financial strain of medical and final costs, can leave a family at odds with how to move forward. Seeking the advice of a Pennsylvania attorney may clarify if a wrongful death claim is warranted, and if so, the attorney can assist with moving forward with the claim.
