2 dead in Pennsylvania car accident

| Nov 25, 2014 | Car Accidents |

Two out-of-state individuals who were in town visiting tragically lost their lives on Nov. 22, Pennsylvania officials have reported. The couple were killed in a car accident on Interstate 80. So far, police have not filed charges, but the investigation into the tragic crash is still ongoing as of this report.

Initial accident reports have confirmed that the couple’s vehicle was traveling in front of a faster moving tractor-trailer when they came upon a slow or stopped trailer ahead. The driver of the rear trailer said he did not realize traffic was slowing at the time. His semi struck the couple’s vehicle, sending it into the front trailer at a high rate of speed.

The couple, a 59-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man, were killed immediately in the ensuing collision. They were pronounced dead by medical personnel arriving on the scene. It is unknown if the tractor-trailer driver or anyone else involved in the accident was injured. Police have not speculated as to whether they will file charges against the tractor-trailer driver at this time, but the investigation is still underway.

If Pennsylvania authorities believe the tractor-trailer driver was culpable in some way for the car accident, either due to inattention, recklessness or another possible factor, it is likely he will face criminal charges. Even if he does not, or if he is not found guilty, the families of the deceased victims still have options. A wrongful death lawsuit filed against the driver and his company could result in financial remuneration being awarded to the family in a civil court setting.
