People often think about their own death. However, such thoughts are generally abstract and tied to the belief that such an event will not happen until well into the future. The idea that any given moment could be a person’s last is known, but not really believed. Unfortunately, one family in Pennsylvania is facing the sobering concept of mortality after their loved one lost his life in a tragic car accident.
The accident occurred in early February. The accident involved three different vehicles. Police report that the 73-year-old driver of a sedan, who was using a seat belt at the time, was killed. The other two vehicles involved were a commercial vehicle and a pickup truck.
According to available reports, no one else was injured in the accident. No other details have been released at this time. More details regarding the cause of the accident may become available as police conduct an investigation into the accident.
An unexpected death such as this is often a double hit for family members. In addition to their emotional shock over the news of their loved one’s death, they will likely also have to face unexpected financial repercussions. In this case, the family will likely have to cope with funeral expenses and may also have to deal with medical bills in addition to the loss of his income. If the man died as a result of another driver’s negligence, and the family can support this claim with evidence in a civil court, filing a wrongful death case in a Pennsylvania court might be a viable option. If a claim of negligence can be proven, a judge could order that damages be awarded to the family in order to reimburse the family for expenses stemming from the car accident.
