Christopher Reid of Hof & Reid LLC, a Bethlehem civil litigation attorney with 14 years of experience focused on personal injury claims representing plaintiffs, has accepted an invitation to speak at the National Business Institute's Seminar, titled "Litigating the Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist Claim," on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Allentown. Christopher Reid will specifically address the sub-topic of subrogation concerns when handling such cases.

Ordinarily, a plaintiff will pursue his or her claims against the insurance company of the driver who caused the injuries, the third party carrier.  In many cases, however, the plaintiff is injured by someone who has no insurance or someone who had insufficient coverage available to cover all of the plaintiff's losses.  In those cases, if there is Uninsured Motorist (UM) or Underinsured Motorist (UIM) Coverage available, the plaintiff may be able to pursue recovery for the injuries from that UM/UIM policy in addition to any available third party coverage.

Like in every third party case, a determination must be made in every UM/UIM case whether there are any other parties who require being paid back from any recovery from the Policy and under what circumstances.  Examples of such parties seeking reimbursement include workers compensation carriers, health insurance providers, Medicare, and the Department of Welfare.  Christopher Reid will address how to recognize these issues and how to determine whether a party seeking subrogation, asserting a lien on any UM/UIM recovery, is actually entitled under the law to a reimbursement.
