A motorcyclist is dead after an accident involving another vehicle, according to local reports. The 49-year-old Pennsylvania resident was involved in a car accident in Crawford County. His passenger survived the encounter. No charges have yet been filed in this incident, but an investigation is still underway.

Reports indicate the man was traveling north when a car pulled out in front of him. The motorcycle struck the car and both passengers were ejected. The driver was not wearing a helmet and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead on arrival. His passenger, a 49-year-old woman, who was also not wearing a helmet, was taken to another hospital in serious condition.

There is no word from police about the driver of the car. It is unknown at this time what caused the accident, though a scheduled autopsy of the victim could rule out intoxication as a possible factor on the motorcyclist's part. The driver does not appear to be in police custody nor in hospital at the time of this writing.

Pennsylvania traffic laws require drivers to be aware of their surroundings for their own safety and the safety of others on the road. In this case, if it is discovered the driver of the car was responsible for negligently causing the car accident, the injured passenger would be entitled to seek compensation via a personal injury lawsuit through civil court. The next-of-kin of the deceased motorcyclist could also seek a wrongful death suit against the driver if they so chose.
