Riding motorcycles may be a passion for some Americans, but sometimes that passion leads to unexpected tragedy. A collision between a car or SUV and a motorcycle can too often turn into a fatal accident. That proved to be the unfortunate case for two Pennsylvania men who lost their lives in a motorcycle accident that took place on Sept. 2.

The fatal crash happened in a restaurant's parking lot. A car reportedly struck a motorcycle, killing both the bike's driver and its passenger. According to reports, the car's driver fled the scene of the accident, failing to render aid to either of the men he apparently hit.

That driver now faces charges that he not only fled the accident scene, but also tampered with evidence relating to the crash. Police allege that the man enlisted the help of another man to power wash his vehicle after the fatal crash. The man who helped wash the car later admitted that he saw blood and broken glass on the car.

Authorities held the man on another unrelated warrant before arraigning him on the new charges, including careless driving leading to unintentional death. When a fatal accident like this takes place, families are often left behind to deal with their grief over the unexpected death of a beloved relative. Pennsylvania law may provide such surviving relatives the opportunity to file a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of their departed loved one. Sometimes such lawsuits can help answer questions as to what caused or contributed to the accident and, when negligence is established, provide financially for any dependent children or surviving family that may be left behind to pick up the pieces and move on after what often seems like a senseless loss.
