Distractions, fatigue and impairment are just a few reasons why a big rig operator in Pennsylvania might collide with another vehicle. Truckers who drive long hours are known to experience delayed reaction time or disorientation behind the wheel. Whatever the causes, the consequences of a truck accident are often catastrophic. Truck accidents cause devastating injuries and claim thousands of lives each year. Many of these types of crashes could be preventable if drivers would follow the rules for safe operation of their vehicles.

One family from another state was driving through Pennsylvania in the early hours of the morning when the unthinkable happened. For unknown reasons, an 18-wheeler struck the car from behind. There were five people in the car, including two children in the back seat.

The 7-year-old girl, the daughter of the car's driver, died at the scene. Her 25-year-old mother sustained critical injuries and died after being transported to a Pennsylvania medical center. The 10-year-old boy, who was also pronounced dead at the scene, was related to the two other passengers who were hospitalized with injuries. Autopsy reports show that all three fatalities were the result of multiple traumatic injuries. The driver of the truck was also injured in the accident.

When the investigation of this truck accident is completed, it may be revealed that one of the vehicle's systems failed or that the driver had a medical emergency. However, if it is found that the driver or the trucking company was negligent in some way, the families affected by this accident have every right to seek damages. In Pennsylvania, people often find support and assistance when they contact an attorney who is dedicated to protecting the rights of accident victims.
