Motorcycle accidents in Pennsylvania bring widespread grief

When a 27-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed in a recent motorcycle accident, it left a giant hole in the hearts of many people. He was a beloved brother, a faithful friend and the doting father of a 6-year-old girl. He also left behind parents, grandparents and six siblings. Sadly, it is not unusual for motorcycle accidents to bring such wide-reaching sorrow.

Just before 7:30 p.m. one recent evening, the man and his girlfriend were riding their motorcycles. As they rounded a curve, a pickup truck coming from the opposite direction crossed into the motorcycle's lane and struck the man's bike. The man, who was not wearing his helmet, was thrown 10 feet down an embankment and died at the scene of his injuries.

His girlfriend on her motorcycle behind him could not avoid the debris in the road and slid into the guard rail. She was hospitalized with moderate injuries. The 32-year-old driver of the pickup received minor injuries.

In Pennsylvania, motorcycle accidents seem to cause devastation to many families. In addition to the immeasurable loss of a loved one, this family now may now be facing unexpected financial burdens such as funeral expenses and the care of  the man's little daughter. Investigators have not yet determined why the driver of the truck crossed into the path of the bike, but the family may decide to consult a lawyer to help them determine if there is enough evidence to pursue action against the truck driver in civil court.
