One woman is dead and a man has moderate injuries following a fatal head-on car crash in Philipsburg, according to local sources. Pennsylvania emergency services attended the car accident, which happened in the early morning of March 14. Police have not filed charges as it appears the deceased driver may have been responsible for the crash.

According to the accident report, a 37-year-old woman was traveling along Tyrone Pike when her vehicle crossed the center line around 3:10 a.m. She passed into the path of an oncoming Mack truck, causing a head-on collision. The woman's car was destroyed, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was also injured in the crash, which is hardly surprising considering the force of the impact. He was taken to a local hospital with moderate injuries of an unspecified type. Police are conducting an additional investigation to determine whether the deceased driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, but that information will be pending a toxicology examination. In the meantime, police have not charged the truck driver with a crime.

Considering the woman crossed the center line, regardless of whether she was intoxicated, the onus for the car accident may well be placed on her. Depending on the extent of the truck driver's injuries, he may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the woman's estate, as well as any other owners of the car she was driving. Such a case would be overseen in a Pennsylvania civil court and would be independent of any workers' compensation claim the trucker may pursue.
