A state trooper accused of failing to stop at a marked stop sign may be held responsible for the death of a 57-year-old local woman, according to news sources. The Pennsylvania officer is accused of running a stop sign resulting in a car accident that killed the Edinboro woman in the early morning of July 3. It is unclear whether the trooper is being formally charged at this time.

According to the accident report, the female victim was traveling north on Route 98 when the accident occurred. The trooper allegedly failed to stop at a perpendicular stop, rolling into the intersection just as the woman was crossing. The resulting collision was severe enough that the trooper and his passenger had to be cut from the patrol car.

The woman died at the scene of the accident. Both troopers injured in the accident were listed in moderate condition when taken to a local hospital. It has been confirmed that the troopers were not responding to a call at the time of the accident. The investigation into the accident is still underway as of this report.

Given that the individual believed to be responsible for this car accident is a Pennsylvania law enforcement officer who was on duty at the time of the crash, there are several options available to the family of the deceased woman. In addition to any criminal charges the trooper might face, the family may be entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit against him and possibly against Pennsylvania authorities, as well. Evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the officer will be required in the civil case as well as in any criminal proceedings that may arise.
