2-car accident kills Pennsylvania man

One man is dead following a two-car pile up on Interstate 78, according to local law enforcement authorities. Pennsylvania police responded to the car accident on the afternoon of Jan. 5 and identified the 50-year-old victim shortly thereafter. The crash remains under investigation as of this writing, and no charges have yet been filed in association with the case.

According to police, road conditions were icy and the sky was overcast when the crash happened, which may have played a role in the accident. The victim was driving in the center lane of I-78 when he was rear-ended by another vehicle, driven by a woman of indeterminate age. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a snow bank. Arriving medical personnel declared him dead at the site of the accident.

The female driver was treated for a minor back injury. While police have acknowledged the role of the weather that appears to be a likely factor in the crash, they have not postulated upon any other possible factors. Their investigation is ongoing, however, and may yet yield additional information about the cause of the accident.

Pennsylvania drivers are aware that roads can become treacherous during the winter months, and state traffic laws are designed to reflect the need for caution during inclement weather conditions. If the police investigation reveals the female driver was not being as careful as conditions demanded, leading up to the car accident, authorities may find her criminally liable. Additionally, the family of the deceased victim may choose to file a wrongful death suit against her, apart from any criminal hearing, in a civil court.
